Amrapali Mango: India’s Legendary Creation That Bears Fruit Every Year

Developed in 1978 by crossing Dashahori and Nilam, the Amrapali mango—named after India’s famed last dancer—has become a global sensation. Unlike traditional mangoes that fruit alternately each year, Amrapali delivers annual yields with superior sweetness and high productivity. Its compact tree size allows 1,500 plants per hectare, making it ideal for commercial cultivation. First smuggled into the country in 1990 and later imported legally by BRAC, Amrapali mangoes are now thriving across Bangladesh and even reaching export markets due to their unmatched quality and consistency.
